Ladysmith is situated some 230 kilometres north-west of Durban and 365 kilometres south of Johannesburg.
The town is located on the banks of the Klip River and Ladysmith was named after the Spanish wife of Sir Harry Smith where many fortune hunters en route to the previous Transvaal gold fields.
Ladysmith has its historic heritage by claim to fame, with many fascinating sites to discover.
Important industries in the area include food processing, textile and tyre production. Tyres are produced by Dunlop near to Steadville.
As the town is halfway between Johannesburg and Durban, Ladysmith is the ideal place for a stop-over. Whether for a few nights or just a few hours.
It is a commercial centre for surrounding communities and Ladysmith is the natural gateway to the tourist delights of the Central and Northern reaches of the Drakensberg range.
