Description:
Stanger or kwaDukuza (in Zulu) lies in the centre of the Dolphin Coast which forms the coastal area of Zululand. It is surrounded by sugarcane fields with the streets lined with Jacarandas.
It is where the King Shaka memorial monument is and also forms part of the Zulu Heritage and the Sugar Route.
KwaDukuza-Stanger has an authentic eastern influence by virtue of the Indian immigrants who came to search for work in the sugar cane farms.
The area hosts a selection of Indian markets, Mosques and Temples which add a vibrant flavour to the region.
With a tropical and humid weather and regular spotting of bottlenose dolphins this area is worth a visit. For the visitor there are daily tours available.
Not to be missed is the King Shaka Day festival held annually on 24 September which is a colourful ceremony of some 10000 Zulus. The cane growing centre and the Stanger North Coast Museum for history lovers.
The town is served by a rail line from the major centre of Durban some 80 kilometres south of the town.
