The small tourist town of St. Lucia is the gateway to the well known iSimangaliso Wetland Park.
St. Lucia has a subtropical climate with stretch-out beaches where some of the world's highest natural vegetated sand dunes are found.
Animals such as hippos, crocodiles, an enormous variety of birds and antelope can be seen in and around the town. St. Lucia is well known for its angling in the lagoon and deepsea, various hiking trails, a large selection of accommodation, restaurants and pubs are available.
There are supermarkets, boat rentals and tour operators redy to transport visitors to the nearby game reserves on day trips and turtle viewing on the beaches in seson.
St. Lucia also host a crocodile and reptile centre managed by the Natal Parks Board.
St. Lucia, as the tourist centre of the Elephant Coast, is the main entrance to the iSimangaliso Wetland Park which is a World heritage site as well as the well known Cape Vidal resort site along the northern beaches of the Elephant Coast.
All this makes St. Lucia the most popular holiday and visiting place of the Elephant Coast bordering the Indian Ocean along the Zululand coastline.
